Impeachment of Representative Lewis Yates [SA-9]
In the name of the People of the State of San Andreas, by their elected representatives in the Legislature, it is hereby declared:
That Lewis Yates, State Representative for the 9th Congressional District, elected in November 2020, reelected in November 2022, and again in November 2024, is charged with conduct unbecoming of his office and in violation of the trust placed in him by the citizens of San Andreas.
Pursuant to the powers vested in the Legislature by the Constitution of the State of San Andreas, the following Articles of Impeachment are hereby brought forth for consideration.
On September 22, 2025, the District Attorney for Alameda County formally filed felony charges against Representative Lewis Yates, including Battery on a Minor and Domestic Abuse.
These charges, stemming from an active police investigation over the course of three months, represent grave and serious allegations of violence and misconduct. Such acts, if proven, constitute moral turpitude, a breach of public trust, and behavior wholly incompatible with the dignity and responsibilities of the office of State Representative.
By engaging in conduct that has led to such charges, Representative Yates has undermined the confidence of the people in his ability to represent them fairly, faithfully, and honorably.
Representative Yates has also been formally charged in a separate criminal matter with Bribery, Extortion, Forgery, and Conspiracy to Defraud a Financial Institution.
These charges allege that Representative Yates engaged in schemes of corruption for personal financial gain, misusing the power and prestige of his office to manipulate, deceive, and defraud. Such conduct represents an abuse of the public trust, a betrayal of the principles of honest government, and a violation of the ethical standards required of an elected official.
Independently of the pending trials, the filing of multiple felony charges against Representative Yates has compromised his ability to faithfully discharge his duties and responsibilities to his constituents.
The mere existence of such grave allegations—particularly those involving violence, abuse, and corruption—has eroded public confidence in his office and brought dishonor to the Legislature of this State.
Such conduct constitutes “high crimes and misdemeanors” within the meaning of the State Constitution and warrants removal from office in order to preserve the integrity of the legislative body and restore the trust of the people.
Therefore, be it resolved that Representative Lewis Yates is hereby impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors, and that Articles of Impeachment be submitted to the Senate for trial and judgment, with the ultimate penalty of removal from office and disqualification from holding any office of honor, trust, or profit under this State.
